Exciting!  Don't forget, the ILC have the software you need and I have H308 booked out on Wednesdays and Thursdays 1.15-2.15 and Friday's 3.30-4.30pm when you can come and work in the room or see me for a one to one.

Just think...2 weeks hard graft and then Santa's coming!  :D  And another unit banked before we start the next :)  Don't panic, don't stress - it'll all be completed soon and I'll help anyway I can.

Comment settings

Please can you all check your settings and ensure that users are able to comment on your blogs please?  There are some students' blogs I can't post feedback to and others that are no problem.

Go to your settings and there should be a tab along the top for 'comments' - please check - you know how I like to pester you :)

P.S.  Some fantastic work here, troops; I'm very proud!  1 day until your your first major product deadline - keep it up!

7 days to go...

7 days until your first production deadline, whether you have chosen to work first on your video-editing or your print tasks.  Don't forget the software you require is now available in the ILC (in the main area) and Colin Bluett is the ILC's Learning Technologist who could be particularly helpful with Photoshop tasks ;-)
In addtion, H317 is available if you'd like a quiet study area.

DEADLINE: THURSDAY 20th OCTOBER

Good luck! :)

So far, so good... 15 days to go until half-term break up!

So...I recently posted a checklist overview for your Advanced Production Portfolio.  Below are a few typical items that I've asked to be completed so far.  Have a look through your blog and identify whether there are any gaps between this list and your own blog.

Remember, this is now your production time.  Try to make the most of your class time to be using the Adobe software and your independent study time to be shooting footage/capturing important images.  You have 15 days to go until your first draft deadline.

Don't panic, just keep going - the work so far has been fantastic.

  • Summer work
  • Product pitch which should have included items such as:  brief chosen & initial proposal, genre, plot ideas, inspirational texts, location/setting recce, characterisation, the beginnings of your storyboarding, potential actors.
  • Flat plans for print texts
  • Storyboards for moving image products
  • Potential target audience study
  • Evidence of managing own deadlines
And now for some Bert & Ernie to celebrate your hard work.

Research & Planning checklist

While this may not offer a difinitive list of exactly what items to include in your R&P, below is a list of the kind of things the moderator and I would want to see from your work:

·         Complete and detailed research and planning.
·         Research into similar products (for each text) and potential target audience.
·         Evidence of organisation of actors, locations, costumes and props.
·         Work on shotlists, drafting, layouts, scripting and storyboards.
·         A level of care in the presentation of your research and planning.
·         Evidence of time management.

Peer feedback & well done :D

Hi Everyone

I have a jpeg of each of your feedback received from your peers during today's task.  I'm really pleased with how this was handled on the whole; some fantastic commenst & creative & constructive suggestions.  Well done! *Beams*.

If you would like me to email your jpeg just drop me a mail and I'll reply with it attached.  Otherwise, I'll try and drop them onto the J drive when I get a chance at work tomorrow so you can just take your own from there.

I'd also like to say how impressed I am with how your blogs are developing; there's some amazing work here.  As Cheryl Cole might say, I'm very proud.

Keep it up!  I'll be taking a closer look and dropping some individual comments in this weekend.
Kaye :)

Reflecting on the Foundation Production Portfolio

Hi Everyone & welcome back after the summer :-)

Thank you for taking the time to set up your blogs; already I can see they are taking shape nicely and it's fantastic to see blogs being treated very professionally and with care.

Now that your blogs are up and running, I'd like you to take some time to reflect upon your AS coursework.  The A2 exam that you will sit in June 2012 will ask you to evaluate your development from AS to A2.  You're encouraged to be reflective upon your own 'distance-travelled' with regards to your skills.  There are some video podcasts that offer further information on this on the Film & Media @ Bede/Headways Facebook page

http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Film-Media-at-BedeHeadways/330003373770

Rather than the age old "If I had more time I would've done this..." and "If I was to do this again I wouldn't do that...";you are instead required to critically reflect upon your skills development in relation to one or two specific production practices including:

  • Digital Technology
  • Creativity
  • Research & Planning
  • Post-Production
  • Using conventions from real media texts
These will all be explored in further detail in class, however, it is important for you bear the above in mind and think sensibly, at this point, about your AS coursework performance.  This will be valuable in thinking about how you will work this year, and will be helpful to look over when you are preparing for your June exam.

Why not make this your first blog entry?  And some pictures/videos would be great ;-)

Happy blogging!
Kaye
